(Col Jameel RM Jaymalin (PA, Ret.) with Col. Benny A. Letrondo (PA, Ret.) meeting with Perry D. Rodriguez of Printzonuz and Net L. Velecina of I'm Press Ka)
It was almost fifty 50 years ago in June of 1962, were more than 200 of us turned into men at McKinley Post Theater in Fort Magsasay, Nueva Ecija. The journey we have been through was the most unforgettable moments in our lives. Marching on stage in military uniform to receive our pin and diploma, symbolizing the fruit of our labor and our admission into the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as Probationary 2nd Lieutenants, was our life long dream.
While we came from all walks of life in the different parts of our country with different culture, dialects, traditions and religion, Fort Magsaysay, taught us to become ONE . . . Fort Magsaysay taught us the meaning of BROTHERHOOD.
Many of us became fine officers and gentlemen of the AFP after that day. Few returned to civilian life. Today, we are now in our early 70’s. Many of us became successful in our respective field of endeavor upon our return into civilian life. Yet, memories of the past still lingers into our minds recalling the experiences we shared and cherished for life as BAND of BROTHERS.
Fort Magsasay became part of our being, it became part of our own, it became part of our history, it became part of our manhood and nothing can surpass the experiences we altogether shared at Fort Magsaysay, that slipped like a blink of an eye.
Fort Magsaysay molded us to become what we are today, it taught us the value of sharing and looking at each others' back. It taught us the significance of holding each others' arms in order to survive, it taught us courage to face volley of fire. Laughter in times of relaxation and retrospection during private moments are among those memories we missed. Fort Magsaysay has been a part of our journey, which we wanted to reminisce as we walk in this pathway called life.
JOIN US in this sentimental journey. Let us altogether, again, like the good old days fifty years ago, march as BAND OF BROTHERS!
LET US RETURN TO FORT MAGSASAY! LET US MARCH, ONCE AGAIN, AS BROTHERS!
