SOCC 62! CALLED BY JAYMALIN!

(Al Hajj Jameel RM Jaymalin with retired Col. Benny A. Letrondo during a press meeting at Camp Aguinaldo Golf Course Restaurant on February 17, 2012)

Retired Col. Jameel RM Jaymalin, Al Hajj, was among the graduate of the Special Officers Course (SOCC) at Fort Magsaysay in 1962. He joined the Philippine Army afterwards and after retirement, became active into the different peace advocacy undertaking among Muslims and Christians alike until he was appointed to head the Payatas Special Operations Group by then Mayor Sonny Belmonte of Quezon City and later named as the Executive Director of the Quezon City Muslim Consultative Council. Today, Col. Jaymalin preferred to be called as peacemaker and an elderly Al Hajj among our brother Muslims, keeping the peace and advocating for development of the City to benefit both our Christian and Muslim brothers and sisters alike.

Presently, Al Hajj Jaymalin is calling all the graduates of SOCC 62' at Fort Magsaysay for a sentimental journey back to the the Camp in preparation of their forthcoming Grand Homecoming this June 2012. HISTORY OF SPECIAL OFFICERS CANDIDATE COURSE
CLASS of 1962’
Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija
By: Col. Mateo H. Luga

The Special Officer’s Candidate Course (SOCC) Class of 1962 at Fort Magsaysay came into being after the School for Reserved Command (SRC), which was founded in 1937 pursuant to the provisions of Section 34, Article IV of the National Defense Act, was disbanded. Thereafter, Army training directive was issued on April 6, 1959 requiring SRC to conduct Non-Commissioned Officer Course (NCOC) instead. SRC then vacated its old site in Fort McKinley, Rizal and transferred to Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. After the NCOC Class Nos. 1, 2 and 3 graduated during the period April 10, 1959 to January 29, 1960, SOCC came into existence.

Alumni of the SOCC Class of 1962 at Fort Magsaysay, Laur, Nueva Ecija, have one of the biggest number of graduates of an Advance Military Training Course in the annals of Philippine History. More than two hundred and fifty (250) graduates of Reserve Officer’s Training Course (ROTC) from the different schools all over the country converged at Fort Magsasay to participate in this history activity with highest number of trainees of an advance military training course and to be later on admitted and called into active military service. Fresh from college at the prime years of their teen age life, the Army at Fort Magsaysay turned these boys into men.

These breed of fine young men from all walks of life of different culture, tradition and religious belief bonded together and learned the value of valor, camaraderie and survival by clinging into each others arm to become band of brothers. Many joined the active service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) after their graduation to become one among the finest officers and gentlemen of the Philippine Military. Those who did not joined the active service became successful career executives in the civilian government and in business, in the private sector.

BACK TO MAGSAYSAY: Batch 62's Sentimental Journey of the BAND OF BROTHERS!

(Col. Rigor Sortili; Col. Mateo H. Luga; Mr. Roy R. Luga; and, Col. Benny Letrondo)

(Col Jameel RM Jaymalin (PA, Ret.) with Col. Benny A. Letrondo (PA, Ret.) meeting with Perry D. Rodriguez of Printzonuz and Net L. Velecina of I'm Press Ka)

It was almost fifty 50 years ago in June of 1962, were more than 200 of us turned into men at McKinley Post Theater in Fort Magsasay, Nueva Ecija. The journey we have been through was the most unforgettable moments in our lives. Marching on stage in military uniform to receive our pin and diploma, symbolizing the fruit of our labor and our admission into the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as Probationary 2nd Lieutenants, was our life long dream.

While we came from all walks of life in the different parts of our country with different culture, dialects, traditions and religion, Fort Magsaysay, taught us to become ONE . . . Fort Magsaysay taught us the meaning of BROTHERHOOD.

Many of us became fine officers and gentlemen of the AFP after that day. Few returned to civilian life. Today, we are now in our early 70’s. Many of us became successful in our respective field of endeavor upon our return into civilian life. Yet, memories of the past still lingers into our minds recalling the experiences we shared and cherished for life as BAND of BROTHERS.

Fort Magsasay became part of our being, it became part of our own, it became part of our history, it became part of our manhood and nothing can surpass the experiences we altogether shared at Fort Magsaysay, that slipped like a blink of an eye.

Fort Magsaysay molded us to become what we are today, it taught us the value of sharing and looking at each others' back. It taught us the significance of holding each others' arms in order to survive, it taught us courage to face volley of fire. Laughter in times of relaxation and retrospection during private moments are among those memories we missed. Fort Magsaysay has been a part of our journey, which we wanted to reminisce as we walk in this pathway called life.

JOIN US in this sentimental journey. Let us altogether, again, like the good old days fifty years ago, march as BAND OF BROTHERS!

LET US RETURN TO FORT MAGSASAY! LET US MARCH, ONCE AGAIN, AS BROTHERS!
